Day 36: Great Hornbill
This is my second ever hornbill – I already like it a lot more than the last one. I like the layers I’ve been doing on the wings of the bird – even if it’s not so overt, I think it still adds a nice level of detail.
Growing up in South East Asia, my family and I used to see these guys sometimes. The birds from that part of the world always remind me of that time of my life…
What reminds you of your childhood?
Day 37: Jellyfish
Since this is my first jellyfish, I’m not going to be too hard on myself… I think this is okay, but I definitely think there’s more to explore with underwater animals. I haven’t done too many of them yet actually!
I’d see the odd jellyfish growing up. Once I remember going snorkelling with a cloud of translucent jellyfish – they were everywhere! Totally harmless, but it was a bit like swimming in one of those drinks with jelly chunks in it…
What’s a weird animal encounter that you’ve had?
Day 38: Volcanic beach in Spain
I took this on my stay in Spain in May this year. I was staying along the coast near Malaga, where the coast had volcanic beaches. I’m not sure that came across in the collage, but I think it’s not too bad for my landscapes.
Overall I still want more practice with landscapes.
Day 39: Daisies
I’ve been having some slight trouble with the colour white when I collage. What I mean is, I struggle to paint my papers the right shade of white… I feel a bit silly painting white pieces of paper, well, white. But if I don’t, then I think it stands out too much because it’s not painted…
So for these daisies I used paper that I had painted pink and white… even though it’s mostly pink, I still like the way the flowers came out. I’m not sure I can still call them daisies, but that’s okay.
Day 40: Lilly Pond
My second lily pond – I was a bit better prepared with the background colour this time. I quite like how this turned out, and for the white Lillies I used some textured hand made paper that has been floating around the house in a notebook since my childhood… this is why you should never through anything away! Everything can be art supplies! 🫣
