Day 11: Purple Heron

Another bird here – as with the others, I’m not totally satisfied with the bird. Purple herons are a type of shore bird I used to see all the time along the canals in Singapore.
Even though I’m not completely taken by the bird, I quite like the background here. I like the layers and colours that are happening – it feels a bit different to my other pieces so far.
Onwards and upwards!
Day 12: Beach scene

This came together in the end reasonably well for a first ever beach scene, I think… the boat needs some help to look like a boat, but I think it’s clear what everything is. I experimented a bit with some palm-like leaves, which I think turned out quite nicely!
This was inspired by a photo I took years ago in Malaysia on a small island that I spent some time on. It was a great experience, and while I’m not sure this collage completely captured that for me, I’m glad I tried.
Day 13: Wheat and poppy field

For this one, I created a background first that did not turn out well, so I re-started. I like this one better. This was a fun one to make, though there were heaps of little details, lots of glueing very thin strands of paper. This was inspired by a photo I took in the fields again – I love the wild flowers that are blooming at the moment!
Day 14: Boardwalk in Jungle

This is supposed to be a boardwalk in a jungle scene. I’m not entirely sure I’ve achieved that, but I reckon if you squint and look from further away, it might resemble the boardwalk and jungle…
I definitely want to get better at doing a jungle scene, or a more general landscape, because at the moment I want more detail but am not sure how to go about it. I want to keep practicing this type of scene.
Day 15: Sunflower field

I took a photo of a sunflower field nearby when I live a few years ago, so I had to try making this as a collage. I’m really happy with how it turned out; I always seem to be happier with the flower fields that I make!
There was also so much more carnage around this piece – so many little bits of cut paper!
